There are lots of dart games apart from the usual 501 and cricket. Also there are lots of variations of these 2 popular games as well. The true expression of darting skill is surely the 501 game. Just as the top golf competitions in the world are all stroke play, the game played in all the top tournaments in the world of darts is the game of 501. Regarded as the true test of darting skill and the biggest draw in the sport of darts. However the home dart player wants more variation to the game than just 501, hence the myriad of other dart games and variations on the classic games. These are the classic dart games to start with.

Lets start with the game of Cricket; The cricket scoring board is marked as follows, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, B: The B on the card signifies the Bull. Before you can start scoring points, you must hit a number 3 times; the number is then Open for you to score on, indicated by an O next to your name and thereafter every time you hit that number you score points toward your total with doubles and trebles scoring as normal as well. Your opponent however can stop you from scoring any more by also registering 3 hits on your number; the number is then marked with an X and takes no further part in the game. If you hit the number 20 5 times the number 20 is then open for you to score after 3 hits and you have scored 40 towards your total, indicated by an O by your name. Then your opponent hits the 20 3 times, the number 20 is then marked with an X to indicate it is no longer part of the game and you both move on to the other numbers. To win the game you must get more points than the other player and hit every number and Bull 3 times. It can get very tricky to decide if you go for points or close out your opponents scoring numbers.

The game of 501 is one of the simplest games to play and is the game played in all the big money professional tournaments. Starting with a total of 501, your score is taken away from this total until you get down to 0. The finishing dart to the game must land in the double ring. The bust rule means that if you score more than you need or just one less than you need then you are “bust” and the score is voided for that turn. You start the next turn with the same score you had before. The dreaded scenario is to end up on double 1 and keep missing it. The double one finish is often called “Annie’s House” for reasons lost in the mists of time.

The accepted opinion is that darts was first conceived due to the boredom connected with being a soldier during medieval times. In the course of downtime between brawls, troops might challenge one another to games of throwing short spears at a thin piece of a cut down tree. The age rings within the timber as well as the splits that developed from drying out created a basic likeness to a present day dart board comprised of numerous lines and several various scoring regions. The sport evolved into somewhat accepted in the middle ages as it was used to maintain soldiers’ hurling arms in practice.

The sport of darts eventually grew to become a lot more prevalent and even noblemen would be known to throw a round ever so often. In fact, history indicates that England’s King Henry VIII was given a group of darts as a present. The sport as we know it was in risk of being transformed through the years. People attempted numerous variants like using a blowpipe to direct the dart. Many Scandinavians still play a variation of darts by hurling foot long small-scale spears from many meters away.

Since it increased in acceptance, the game of darts has overcome multiple attempts to have it prohibited. Many individuals thought that darts was a game of odds and not a game of skill, so it needed to end up being settled in a courtroom in 1908. The sport was illegal in Scotland because a corrupt influence but the civic outcry made it short-lived. Currently the sport is most well known in Britain in which you will find an incredible number of competitors and thousands of registered groups, however it’s rapidly growing to be a global hobby. The sport is common in the Netherlands, Germany and the Scandinavian areas. In the U.S. many of thousands of dartboards are bought yearly and numerous Americans play darts every week.

Though the game of darts can be played in many different ways, the circular game board is always a necessary component of play. It is a game which is played competitively, as well as in pubs and private homes. The board is usually made of sisal, a strong, durable fiber, with each section lined with wire. The standard dart board is hung so that the bull’s eye is five feet, eight inches from the floor, and the throwing line is seven feet, nine and a quarter inches from the board. For casual play these rules do not have to be set in stone as people are playing just for fun and social interaction.

The rules for playing darts are not complicated. There are usually two teams, each made up of two or more players. Each person is allowed nine throws as a pre-game warm-up. To determine which team or player will go first a dart is thrown by a person from each team. The closest throw to the bull’s eye is the team that will go first. When his turn comes, each player will throw three darts. Then the other side will also throw three darts. If someone accidentally crosses over or steps on the dart throwing line or oche in the course of play; the throw is disqualified and that person must wait for his turn come around again to resume playing.

Darts must remain on the dart board for five seconds to be counted and if sticks into another dart or causes it to fall of the board it does not count. Darts are scored in the following way: in the wedge, the amount posted on the outer ring; in the double ring (the outer, narrow ring) twice the number hit; in the triple ring (the inner, narrow ring) three time the number hit. Bull’s eye (outer bull) is twenty five points; the double bull’s eye is fifty points. Many people enjoy darts and even have their own special sets of darts, imbued with almost supernatural powers, that they will not play without. Dart players are a fun-loving bunch of people who enjoy the company of others in a fun yet mildly competitive way.

Steel tip darts are the originals, the darts that everyone used up until the 1990′s when soft tip darts came on the scene in a big way. Steel tip darts are also the choice of all the big money tournaments, like the Las Vegas Classic and the British Lakeside competition. There is some animosity toward the soft tip darters from the traditionalist darters who believe that the only true darts game uses steel tip darts and Sisal dart boards.

Steel darts are made of steel with a sharpened point so they can stick into sisal or a wooden dart board. Over the years, the steel tip has undergone some innovations, like the Bottelsen No Bounce out darts, whereby the tip of the darts can retract into the object and absorb the sharp impact allowing a forward momentum for the dart to pass and stick into the board.

Another dart used is the Black widow darts, which follows a similar system called a movable point. This form of darts had the added advantage to swivel around the tip and had the same effect as spinning shafts.

These days darts are being manufactured from different materials. Tungsten is considered to be the current demand for material of the dart. It has a superior density with less weight as compared to traditional brass, which increases the chances of hitting three in a bed and scoring 180.

Although, the tips of the dart varies, but the other parts like the shaft, flights etc remains the same. Another difference between darts are their weights. For example, steel tip darts weighs around 18 – 28 gm range, but soft tip darts only weighs upto 20 gm to protect the delicate electronics.

As for maintenance of your steel tips, be sure to keep the point sharp, either by rubbing the tip on some grinding paper or using the shaped carborundum stone you can get specifically to keep steel tips sharp. If you are really flash, you can get battery-operated sharpeners that can do it for you, guaranteeing the correct angle to your point as well.

Darts is a fun social sport, the history of which can be traced back to the days of the longbow in Medieval England, and is still popular today. It has been said that darts were used in archery training because it helped with accuracy. They shortened the darts and had people throw them at the bottom of an empty wine barrel. It has been noted by historians that the use of the barrel lead to the development of the game of darts that we know today.

It was thought that darts developed into a sport in itself when soldiers being trained in archery took their shortened darts to local pubs and bars so they could refine their skills as well as exhibit their talents to the locals. When the bottom of the barrel proved to be inconvenient, someone created a cross-section of a moderate sized tree.

The game of darts itself soon spread and it was being played by old and young all over England. The rich and elite of the country were no different. They soon put their own stamp on the game. Darts can be traced back to the Pilgrims. It has been said that the game of darts was very popular on the Mayflower as it made its ocean crossing.

The rules of darts settled into what we know today at around 1900. The size of the board, throwing distance and even the size of the darts became standard. Many people enjoy the sport around the world. Today there are organized tournaments and organizations and leagues that specialize in the sport of darts. It is very popular and people make their living playing this sport all over the world.

The history of the game of darts goes back a long time. Legend has it that soldiers during the Middle Ages used to throw spears at barrel bases or cut-up tree trunks to get over their boredom. This gradually gave shape to what we now know as dart games. The system of scoring, followed across the world, came into being during the early 18th century.Dart games have become popular over the years as it is inexpensive to play, can be played indoors during bad weather, no dress codes are required, and can be played by anyone – male or female, young or old.

The basic requirements are a dartboard and darts. With the advancement of technology dartboards have also evolved through the times. The most common dartboard is the bristle board – either cork or sisal. Cork dartboards deteriorate quickly with continued used, as the darts leave holes in the boards and the cork crumbles. The fibrous nature of sisal, however, is able to overcome this drawback and has therefore gained popularity. Sisal does not crumble even after constant use. Electronic dartboards are also available, and are equipped with sensors allowing for automated scoring.

There are various types of darts. The main parts of a dart are the tip, barrel, shaft and flight. Tips are either steel or soft. Soft tips are preferred on electronic dartboards and cork dartboards and are also recommended for new players. Steel tips are for the more experienced dart players. Shafts also come in various types. Synthetic flights are the most common nowadays and can be combined with the shafts. The use of feathers as flights has decreased considerably nowadays.

Many dart accessories are available nowadays. Instead of simply hanging the dartboard on walls, dart cabinets can be used to add style and elegance to your dart game. Many players also attach add-a-grams to get the required weights on the darts. The perfect weight improves accuracy in shooting. Dart mats are useful for new players, as the bounce-off from the boards may cause considerable damage to the floor. It is also important to have a rule book as there are many methods of keeping scores and the game can be played under different rules.

There are several elements to consider when choosing your darts. Grip is also and important factor. Many players get nervous when playing matches and there is nothing worse than having your dart slip out of your fingers when aiming for that crucial double to win the game. Here are some ways to choose a dart grip when throwing darts:

Four fingers and thumb -Typically the smallest finger rests on the top or bottom of the dart tip for maximum guidance in acceleration. This option provides maximum touch on the dart which can help with accuracy and placement. However, it does require a lot fingers on the dart barrel which can cause your throw to get away from you. Using all four of your fingers on the dart can cause your throw to “stick” to your fingers or can cause you to over-power, or push your throw.

Three fingers and thumb – This is a basic option that gives you a lot of control over the dart during the acceleration of your throw. You can also have more control over the placement of the dart using this option. However, the third finger on the dart barrel does increase your chances of a misfire, similar to the four finger grip.

Two fingers and thumb – This option allows for fewer fingers to get in the way of a great throw while sacrificing some control of the placement of your dart. If your dart flutters or snaps awkwardly in the middle of your throw try moving your thumb slightly behind the center weight of the dart for more control. The majority of competitive dart throwers use this style of grip in their game.

One finger and thumb – This position is similar to how you would hold a writing pen. Many dart players who use this style also let the dart rest on tip of the second finger for support. This option minimizes your touch points on the dart barrel at the expense of control over the dart. It can be very effective for achieving consistent dart throwing. However, because it minimizes your control it can take some time to get used to before you are successful with this grip.

The game of darts had its origins in England and may have first been made from the cross section of a tree or even the bottoms of wine casks which was why it was sometimes named “butts”. Playing the game of darts can be a good recreational activity, as well as a good sport provided an individual knows the technique of throwing darts. To learn the technique of throwing darts, one should understand that the dart travels through a curve, and the speed with which the dart is thrown should continue the movement until it reaches and strikes the dartboard.

Many people enjoy darts and even have their own special sets of darts, imbued with almost supernatural powers, that they will not play without. Dart players are a fun-loving bunch of people who enjoy the company of others in a fun yet mildly competitive way. To get best results while throwing darts and to avoid the dart from wobbling, one should use standard form flights and middle length shafts. Moreover to get the best throw, the darts should not point too much upward or downward.

Throwing darts accurately and consistently is a skill which requires a great deal of concentration and excellent hand and eye coordination. Any the factors listed below can have a dramatic effect on a person’s performance. Many people can hit big scores but the key to successful darts is accuracy and consistency. You need to develop a consistent throw with every movement the same. To help you achieve this use the vertical line as a training tool. Draw a chalk line through the centre of your board from double top to double three. For a couple of sessions purely concentrate on hitting that line. If you find you are consistently hitting left or right of the mark, readjust your throw until you are consistently hitting the line. Once you have developed a consistent straight throw, you are well on the way to becoming a competent darter.

In darts nothing destroys your confidence quicker than regularly hitting fives and ones when going for the treble twenty. Once your line is right and you consistently find the twenty you can then concentrate on hitting the treble on a regular basis. There are obviously many more aspects to successful darts but a straight throw is critical.

The throwing of darts is completed through five stages — aiming, backward move, and acceleration, release and a follow through. While taking e aim, the dart, the eye and the target have to be in a same line. Backward movement of the dart has to done slowly and by controlling the aim, which normally comes with practice. Acceleration, although not essential, has to be done very smoothly, allowing it to go along with the follow through. If the throwing technique is right, the proper release comes naturally. Follow through is keeping the same position for a while, even after release, that is to aim at the target.

While throwing a dart one should not move the whole body, but the movement should be restricted to the arm alone. The elbow should be in a fixed position while moving backward and should be alleviated during acceleration. Using the wrist to throw a dart does not really help, but many people believe that by using their wrist, they can gain the required speed. To get best results while throwing darts and to avoid the dart from wobbling, one should use standard form flights and middle length shafts. Moreover to get the best throw, the darts should not point too much upward or downward.
